The History of The Tree

Not much is known about The Tree itself. The closest building, Howlett Hall, was built in 1969. It is unknown as to whether The Tree was present before the building was erected or if it was part of the Howlett Hall landscaping.

The tailgate at The Tree began in 1976 consisting of mainly the three Bugnos (Tommy, Steve, and their Dad) along with their neighbors and an occasional passer-by. The Keg and The Grill were not yet a part of the format. One year, Tommy claims to have been led astray to the Fawcett Center! But that didn't stick.

Ever since, the tailgate at The Tree has been a home football game tradition. And the tailgate has grown. Sometimes bringing in 50+ people. Many tailgaters bring their children now.
